The book was one that I had loved as a little girl. I first heard it at a library story time and immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately, for many years later I was unable to find the book again, mostly because I missed the actual title hey — I was only three or four! When my children were young, I bought a copy of The Sneetches and Other Stories as it was originally published in to read to them and to my delight, I rediscovered my own all-time favorite Seuss story.

To this day, however, I still refer to it as Pale Green Pants. The story is about a character who, although he is not afraid of anything, meets a pair of pale green pants with nobody inside them in the deep, dark woods one night. As the story goes on, the character and those pants keep running into each other. The character becomes more and more frightened with each meeting until finally he and those pale green pants come face-to-face and he practically wets himself.

And then a funny thing happens. Those pale green pants react in exactly the same manner and our funny little Seuss character realizes that those pants are just as afraid of him as he is of them. And when seen from that perspective, he puts his arm around those pants and they become friends.
